Under the last electoral leadership the Hofbräuhaus Traunstein was passed to Leopoldine; the widow of sovereign elect Karl-Theodor who died in 1799.

Soon after the secularization, whereupon the new kingdom of Bavaria accrued many ecclesiastical breweries, once again there was a desire to do away with this brewery.
